My Unit 7 Presentation:
My Audition:
My assigned role: Usherette / Magenta
My Written Proposal:
Section 1- Rationale (approx 100)
My
skills at the start of the course were geared more towards acting and singing.
I felt very confident in my acting skills and knew what type of songs I sounded
best singing. However, I wasn’t very comfortable or confident singing in front
of other people. I
had quite a good level of flexibility and some knowledge of Jazz technique. I
didn’t know much about Ballet and my ability to pick up choreography was very
slow
The skills I've gained since starting the course:
In Singing I feel so much more confident trying new songs that are of a higher tone and
singing in front of an audience- I’ve gained experience: I
was able to put together and sing through a 20 minute set and achieve a
distinction in this module. I
was also able to sing a duet, 2 group songs and 2 solos during our performance of Little Shop of
Horrors.
In Dance I
now have a much wider knowledge of both Ballet and Jazz technique. I
have a faster pick up time for learning choreography:where I've shown this has been in Addams Family, Chorus
Line, Leave a Light On and during Shannon’s combos in Jazz class. I've found that I'm physically
stronger during Jazz warm ups and I have an improved posture in Pilates.
In Acting I’m much more confident in working on monologues. We did a monologue
from Anne Frank back in term 1 and I found this hugely helpful in being able to
rely on only myself during a performance when there isn’t the safety net of
another person to bounce off of. I’ll be able to carry this into next year and
university auditions.
I
also feel more confident during improvised scenes as it has helped me to be
able to develop quick thinking skills especially in exercises such as the
Alphabet Improv exercise.
Section 2: Project Concept: (approx 200)
My aims for the project can be divided into 2 sections: Performance and Backstage Work. My main aim for performance is to give a convincing, entertaining, confident and well rehearsed portrayal of my characters Usherette and Magenta as well as work well as an esemble with other members of my class. The research I will need to achieve this aim is to watch the original film, paying particular attention to my parts, learn my lines and songs well so I'm confident with them and research the characters themselves so I can provide a convincing and entertaining portrayal of them. The resources I will use for this will be mostly online in the form of articles, videos of past performances, the film and possibly interviews done with cast members.
My main aim for props is to provide realistic and fitting props for all the different characters throughout the show. The research I will need to do for this is to re-watch the live performance of Rocky Horror that we previously watched in class. This will be more useful than the film as it's much more recent than the film and as it's a stage production we will likely mimic the way they use their props as neither their nor our production can use high tech visual affects as a film can.

Section 3: Evaluation: (approx 50)
I will keep a written log throughout this project. I will write an overview of all my decision-making after each session and after my research I complete individually. I will also use videos to document developments performance-wise and summarise the progress we make after each practical session. In order to reflect and self-evaluate effectively I will write a strength and a weakness of the session and write a target to aim for the next practical session. For example: to work on a particular move during a number or my characterisation during a specific scene.

Introduction to project musical, synopsis of story and character summaries:
The musical we're doing for our project is The Rocky Horror Show. This is a 1973 musical written by Richard O'Brien about innocent, all american couple Brad and Janet and how their lives change before when they enter the Frankenstein Place where mad scientist, "sweet Transvestite" Dr. Frank'n'Furter" and his strange staff reside.
Story synopsis:
ACT 1: The story begins with all American sweethearts Brad and Janet in the car on the back from a friend's wedding. Brad proposes to Janet and she joyfully accepts. However, this joy doesn't last long when on the way to go and see the teacher who introduced them, their car breaks down. Brad remembers seeing a castle a few miles back along the road and Janet insists going with him. Walking through pouring rain the couple see the Frankenstein place and knock on the door. Butler/ servant Rif-Raf invites them in after Brad asks if may use the telephone. However, things take a strange turn quickly when the couple realise they've walked into a rather strange party. Here they meet the other household staff, the seductive sadist Magenta and the high energy, bubbly Columbia. Brad and Janet turn to leave however are stopped when out walks Dr. Frank'n'Furter in all his glory. He invites them up to his lab where he is "building a man with blonde hair and a tan". Brad and Janet are stripped of their wet clothes and taken to the lab where Frank brings to life the project he's been working on: Rocky Horror. Rocky is unsure of the world and feels somewhat intimidated by the strange characters in the house however, Janet seems as though she wouldn't mind showing him the ropes. This celebration is interrupted when Eddie, Frank's previously lover comes crashing into the lab. His appearance, and life is cut short when Frank chases him with a chainsaw and kills him. The attention turns back to Rocky who Frank wants to train to be even more physically flawless than he already is. They have a wedding ceremony and go to bed.
ACT 2: During the night Janet and Brad have a sexual experience however it is soon revealed that what both of them thought was the other, was actually Frank. Initially both of them are shocked and disgusted however, allow him to continue. Janet goes to look for Brad while he is engaged in activity with Frank and passes the TV monitor which shows her what's happening in Frank's bedroom. She is incredibly upset both at Brad and at herself for feeling the new sensations that she's feeling and even more so that she actually enjoyed it. She is comforted by Rocky who is hiding from the household staff. This comforting soon turns to something as Janet accepts and embraces her new found libido. Frank meanwhile, has left Brad and is trying to find Rocky. When he sees him and Janet over the monitor he is shocked and faints. Brad walks past the monitor, seeing Janet and Rocky together and he reflects on what this means for their relationship . He is interrupted by Frank, now recovered and the arrival of Dr. Scott, the very man he and Janet had been on their way to see before all the events of the night and day before. Frank accuses Brad of planning all these events for Dr. Scott who now works in the Government in the department of UFOs which of course Brad denies. Dr. Scott is brought into the room by Columbia and Magenta and they are soon joined by Janet and Rocky. Dr. Scott reveals the reason he is there is because he'd received a letter from his nephew: the late Eddie, warning him of the evil schemes Frank had planned and that he was, rightfully, fearing for his life. Confident that everything is going his way Frank makes all the unexpected guests plus Columbia perform a floor-show for his own entertainment. This is cut short by Rif-Raf and Magenta entering in typical alien dress and telling Frank they were going to beam the entire house back to the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. Frank says his goodbyes and Rif-Raf reveals that only he and Magenta would be returning home and he is going to kill Frank. Columbia runs and takes the hit from Rif-Raf's ray gun, causing her to die. Rif-Raf kills Frank and Rocky dives forward to cradle the body. Rif-Raf kills him too. He tells Brad, Janet and Dr. Scott to leave while they still can. They do, and the house is beamed into space. Brad and Janet embrace. The story ends.
